Modified Split-Step Fourier Method for the Numerical Simulation of Soliton Amplification in Erbium- Doped Fibers with Forward Propagating Noise

چکیده
Using a modified version of the split-step Fourier method, we analyze the effect of noise on soliton propagation inside erbium-doped fiber amplifiers. In fact, noise from forward-propagating amplified spontaneous emission, associated with a Markov immigration process, is included in the analysis of soliton amplification. Moreover, this algorithm accounts for the real spectral gain profile of the fiber amplifier. The frequency jitter, induced during soliton amplification, is compared with the Gordon–Haus effect where optical amplifiers are considered as noisy point-like devices.

Effect of gain dispersion and stimulated Raman scattering on soliton amplification in fiber amplifiers.
Amplification of ultrashort solitons in fiber amplifiers is discussed by considering a general model that includes gain saturation, gain dispersion, and intrapulse stimulated Raman scattering. The numerical results show that an interplay between gain dispersion and intrapulse Raman scattering can lead to novel temporal and spectral features. Under high-gain conditions the input pulse is found t...

A simple technique for simultaneous amplification and compression of ultrashort fundamental solitons is proposed. It is based on an erbium-doped nonlinear amplifying fiber loop mirror. Numerical simulations show that, unlike conventional erbium-doped fiber amplifiers in which nonlinear effects lead to serious degradation of pulse quality, the proposed device performs efficient high-quality ampl...
متن کاملA numerical study of the long wave-short wave interaction equations
Two numerical methods are presented for the periodic initial-value problem of the long wave–short wave interaction equations describing the interaction between one long longitudinal wave and two short transverse waves propagating in a generalized elastic medium. The first one is the relaxation method, which is implicit with second-order accuracy in both space and time. The second one is the spl...
